Prime Video Volume Booster and Dialogue Boost

Try Prime Video’s own Dialogue Boost first. If the whole soundtrack is quiet, check volume and supported browser processing.

For quiet voices, first check Prime Video’s built-in Dialogue Boost. It is a different feature from Hearably’s Voice Boost preset. If the entire soundtrack is too quiet, start with player, system and output volume instead.

How to find Prime Video Dialogue Boost

Amazon’s Dialogue Boost instructions apply to supported titles on the web, Amazon devices and mobile devices. During playback, open the subtitles/CC menu or the separate Audio menu. Look for a Dialogue Boost audio option with a Medium or High setting. Use an option that is actually offered for your title and language.

Compare the same scene before adding another tool

  1. Keep the language and device volume unchanged. Pick a short passage with speech followed by a louder moment, and note its timestamp.
  2. Compare the regular track with the available dialogue option. Replay that passage and judge whether the speech is easier to follow while effects remain comfortable.
  3. Return to the regular track if the change is unhelpful. Avoid simultaneously enabling multiple enhancements: you need to know which change made the difference.
  4. If the option is missing, check another title or available track. A browser extension cannot add a missing Prime Video audio-track option. Keep subtitles available if they help you follow the scene.

When browser volume control is worth testing

If everything is still too quiet, confirm Prime Video’s player volume, the system’s app mixer and the selected headphones or speakers. Compare a second title. Our browser-volume guide covers that route; our Edge guide covers installation and playback recovery.

Hearably is an optional next step for supported desktop Chrome or Edge tabs. Start with Free and a small adjustment on the actual Prime Video title. Protected playback can prevent capture or introduce problems; buying Pro does not remove that limitation. The extension cannot control Prime Video’s native TV or mobile apps.

LISTENING EXAMPLE · SYNTHETIC SPEECH

What changes quiet speech and loud effects?

Compare our short original script followed by a generated chime. Start at a low device volume and keep it fixed across all three examples. Each file lasts about five seconds and plays only when you press play.

Spoken transcript: “This is the quiet sentence. A louder chime comes next.” [A chime follows.]

1. Original: quiet speech, louder chime

Listen for the level change after the spoken sentence.

2. Everything raised by 6 dB

Both speech and chime get louder. Their level gap stays the same.

3. Compression plus 6 dB

Speech has the same level as example 2. The following chime is reduced.

In the compressed example, the measured gap between the speech segment and chime drops by 7.4 dB. Speech receives the same gain as in example 2. This is not a measurement of intelligibility.

This is a controlled example with synthetic voices, not a recording from a streaming service or a test of Hearably’s Night Mode. Speech and chime occur in sequence: it does not show voice separation from simultaneous music. Overall levels are deliberately not matched.

Measurements, method and source files

RMS levels from the finished WAV files: the speech window includes its pauses; the chime lasts 0.8 seconds. “Gap” is the difference between those two levels. RMS is not LUFS and does not describe your speakers’ sound pressure level.

Digital segment levels, dBFS RMS
FileSpeechChimeGap
WAV 1-45.2-20.125.0 dB
WAV 2-39.2-14.125.0 dB
WAV 3-39.2-21.517.7 dB

The simple full-band compressor uses a −25 dBFS threshold, 4:1 ratio, instant attack and 150 ms release, followed by +6 dB. No extra normalization, EQ or limiter. Reproduce the processing from the fixed speech files using Node.js.

The English voice was generated with Piper’s LJ Speech model; the German voice uses Thorsten Voice. Their model cards list public domain and CC0 speech datasets respectively. Text, model sources, checksums and settings are documented; no endorsement by the original speakers is implied.

Dialogue Boost, Voice Boost and volume are different controls

Prime Video Dialogue Boost is selected within Prime Video. Hearably Voice Boost is a Pro processing preset for a supported captured tab. Volume gain raises the whole captured soundtrack. Do not treat these names as interchangeable or assume that an EQ preset isolates a voice from overlapping music.

Hearably Free includes up to 120% volume and a 3-band EQ. Pro adds the 800% range, 10-band EQ, Night Mode and Voice Boost. Test capture and the Free controls before considering those extra features. Compare processing off, a modest Free change, and any Pro preset separately at the same device volume.

A different title or language track can sound different. That observation does not establish a fixed Prime Video loudness target, an identical mix for every language, or a universal loss of dialogue in browser playback. The controlled listening example shows why uniform gain leaves a speech-to-effect level gap unchanged. It does not measure Prime Video or demonstrate how its native Dialogue Boost works.

If playback becomes silent, unstable or out of sync, stop Hearably processing and reload the Prime Video tab. Use the regular audio track for the comparison. If the issue persists without the extension, continue with the player or device’s own troubleshooting.

Reviewed 5 October 2026 using Amazon’s linked instructions and Hearably’s published plan limits. No catalogue-wide or physical-device compatibility test is claimed. The embedded files use our own script, synthetic speech and a generated chime.

Compare your dialogue settings

1

Identify the problem before choosing a control

Distinguish a quiet soundtrack from quiet speech against loud effects. Raising the entire mix is useful for the first problem but also raises effects in the second.

2

Keep a short comparison record

Record the title, episode, timestamp, selected language, output device and setting. Compare at the same device volume so the result is repeatable.

3

Use one enhancement at a time

Compare the native audio option first. Test Hearably separately only if you still need another adjustment, then check both dialogue and the next louder passage.

4

Confirm capture before choosing Pro

Use Free on the actual browser tab. If capture fails, an upgrade is not a remedy. Stop processing and reload to restore ordinary playback.

5

Recheck when the title or track changes

A useful setting for one scene may be excessive for the next programme. Keep the ability to lower the gain or switch processing off.

Built for this exact use case

🔊

Free: up to 120% volume

Make a modest per-tab adjustment when the complete soundtrack is quiet and browser capture works.

🎚️

Free: 3-band EQ

Compare basic tonal changes on the combined soundtrack. It does not create a separate dialogue track.

🌙

Pro: Night Mode and Voice Boost

Explore compression and preset options after testing Free. These are Hearably controls, separate from Prime Video’s native feature.

🎛️

Pro: 800% range and 10-band EQ

Use extra range only when the source and output call for it. A maximum control setting is not a target listening level.

Test tab audio in three steps

1

Install

Add Hearably from the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons.

→
2

Check playback

Open Hearably on the playing tab and start processing. Confirm that audio still plays before changing settings.

→
3

Compare

Try a small volume or EQ adjustment. Stop processing and reload the tab if playback is disrupted.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I find Dialogue Boost on Prime Video?

Amazon documents it for supported titles. Check the audio options offered for the title and track you are playing; availability should not be assumed for the whole catalogue.

Is Prime Video Dialogue Boost the same as Hearably Voice Boost?

No. One is selected within Prime Video, while Hearably Voice Boost is a Pro preset applied to a supported captured browser tab. Try the native setting first and compare changes separately.

Is Hearably free for Prime Video?

Free includes up to 120% volume and a 3-band EQ. The 800% range, 10-band EQ, Night Mode and Voice Boost require Pro. Test the actual title with Free before considering an upgrade.

Will the extension work with every Prime Video title?

No universal compatibility is promised. Protected-content restrictions, browser behaviour and the output route can affect capture. Stop processing and reload the tab if sound disappears or playback becomes unstable.

Can the browser extension fix the Prime Video TV app?

It only processes supported desktop Chrome or Edge tabs. For a TV app, streaming device or phone, use the audio options and output settings available on that device.

Can I make dialogue louder without making effects louder?

Uniform gain raises both. Compare the native dialogue option if available. Hearably EQ and compression change the combined mix but do not isolate speech from overlapping music or effects.

Test Prime Video tab audio with Hearably Free

Try the native audio options first. Free gives you up to 120% volume and a 3-band EQ on supported Chrome or Edge capture.
