If the entire Twitch stream is audible but too quiet, check the player, tab mute and output device, then try a small per-tab boost. If game audio is loud but the voice is buried, more overall gain also raises the game. If a VOD section has no delivered audio, gain cannot restore it.

What changes quiet speech and loud effects?
Compare our short original script followed by a generated chime. Start at a low device volume and keep it fixed across all three examples. Each file lasts about five seconds and plays only when you press play.
Spoken transcript: “This is the quiet sentence. A louder chime comes next.” [A chime follows.]
1. Original: quiet speech, louder chime
Listen for the level change after the spoken sentence.
2. Everything raised by 6 dB
Both speech and chime get louder. Their level gap stays the same.
3. Compression plus 6 dB
Speech has the same level as example 2. The following chime is reduced.
In the compressed example, the measured gap between the speech segment and chime drops by 7.4 dB. Speech receives the same gain as in example 2. This is not a measurement of intelligibility.
This is a controlled example with synthetic voices, not a recording from a streaming service or a test of Hearably’s Night Mode. Speech and chime occur in sequence: it does not show voice separation from simultaneous music. Overall levels are deliberately not matched.
Measurements, method and source files
RMS levels from the finished WAV files: the speech window includes its pauses; the chime lasts 0.8 seconds. “Gap” is the difference between those two levels. RMS is not LUFS and does not describe your speakers’ sound pressure level.

The simple full-band compressor uses a −25 dBFS threshold, 4:1 ratio, instant attack and 150 ms release, followed by +6 dB. No extra normalization, EQ or limiter. Reproduce the processing from the fixed speech files using Node.js.
The English voice was generated with Piper’s LJ Speech model; the German voice uses Thorsten Voice. Their model cards list public domain and CC0 speech datasets respectively. Text, model sources, checksums and settings are documented; no endorsement by the original speakers is implied.

Why gain cannot turn down only a Twitch alert
Twitch delivers the channel's mixed program to the viewer. A gain control raises the voice, game, music and any existing noise together. Compression can reduce some differences in level, but it cannot independently remix sources that already overlap. Aggressive settings can make background sound more noticeable or cause pumping.
Our listening example uses original synthetic speech followed by a generated chime. The sound occurs in sequence, so it illustrates gain and compression rather than separation of a voice from simultaneous game audio. It is not a Twitch recording or a test of Hearably's Night Mode.

Playback and silent VOD sources
Twitch's supported-browser guidance recommends checking browser updates and testing without extensions when playback fails. Its muted-audio guidance describes why some VOD sections can be muted. Not every silence has that cause; compare the same timestamp before diagnosing it.

Compare your dialogue settings
Keep the passage and output fixed
Use a replayable VOD passage with speech and an alert or louder moment. Keep the player, device level and headphones unchanged. A changing live stream is a less controlled comparison.
Establish native playback first
Listen with Hearably off. Check player and tab mute, the selected output and the browser level in your system mixer. Compare a second channel if only one sounds quiet.
Try a small gain change
Begin at 100%, then move toward 120% with Free. Replay the same passage and switch enhancement off to compare. Lower the level if noise or distortion increases.
Choose EQ or dynamics for a specific problem
Use EQ for tonal balance. If you have Pro, compare Voice Boost or Night Mode separately. Neither control provides isolated voice, game and alert tracks.
Check quiet and loud moments
A setting that helps quiet speech may make the next alert uncomfortable. Include both in the comparison instead of judging only the quietest sentence.
Restore native audio if capture fails
Turn Hearably off for that tab, reload it and replay the same passage. Record the browser version, output device and timestamp if silence or sync trouble can be reproduced.

Why is the streamer’s voice quiet but the game loud?
The broadcast may contain an uneven microphone and game mix. Overall gain raises both. The broadcaster can rebalance separate sources before transmission; a listener does not receive those separate controls.
Can Hearably restore muted Twitch VOD audio?
No. It cannot recover audio missing from the delivered recording. Compare the same timestamp without enhancement and consult Twitch’s muted-audio guidance.
Can it make alerts and ads quieter?
Dynamics processing may reduce some level differences in the combined program. Hearably’s Ad Guard responds to signal levels; it does not recognize ad content or extract an alert from a mix.
Does it work in the Twitch mobile or TV app?
